Local antimicrobial delivery systems have been widely used in veterinary dentistry. The system has two parts, a delivery gel and an antimicrobial agent. The delivery gel is thermo-reversible meaning it is a liquid when chilled in the fridge and a solid at body temperature. Two preloaded variants are available, Doxycycline and Clindamycin. Doxycycline is a canine treatment and used to treat enlarged pockets by stimulating the fibroblasts and thereby promoting reattachment. Clindamycin is used to fight infection in feline, canine and lupine patients. Thermo-reversible gel is also available in 50g jars and antimicrobial agents can be added to this.
